Battle Report of CDs vs DoC

So while on holidays, one of my good buddies ( and Dark Elf client ) came over to chat and have a few games of fantasy.

We played with only my models, and they were "friendly" games too. 3000 points per side.

He played with my Daemons, sporting a lot of Slannesh and Khorne, while I brought out my proxy heavy Chaos Dwarfs! Still trying to figure them out, and also wanting to see how 2 K'daai's do in a match. I did put quotation marks around the friendly word, right? :)

Classic pitch battle set up. No special rules on the terrain, and my mate had set everything up while I was writing up my list.

As with all of our games.. for some reason I got to go first.. again. Seems to be a tradition, and one of the few times I do well on the rolls!

First turn movement, and casualties! Thanks to some magic getting through, I was able to put a dent into 1 of his 2 50 strong Daemonette hordes!

His retaliation was not as strong, but he did block a lot of my charges for the next turn. Including sacrificing his furies to my K'daais to move them to where he wanted them. More so since they suffer from Frenzy ( something I keep forgetting, but am thankful for the extra d3 attacks each turn :) ).

K'daai takes out the furies, and overruns, passing the horde by. Nice move by the Daemons there indeed. However it did cost him both his fury units in the process! But he now had some nice set ups because of it.

Both K'daais are now out of the way for him, as his Keeper of Secrets and main horde of Daemonettes can charge into the Sorceror Prophet and Infernal Guard unit.

However, while doing so, he blocked his own Bloodcrusher unit from charging also! So they had to sit this turn out, and figure out what they would be doing next time around.. He also mis-judged a charge against the Hobgoblins, and ended up right for a dual charge to him next turn!

Although it was dumb to do so, I did charge the Hobgoblins alongside the Infernal guard with BSB into the Daemonette Horde.. they were pretty much screwed, but somehow stuck around! Meanwhile the Lord and his unit were still stuck in combat thanks to Stubborn, and a high leadership.. that and the fact that the Prophet refused to yield!

This was the view from the right most K'daai.. sitting in the trees looking down at its next target. The Daemonettes needed to win combat and break the Chaos Dwarfs else the monster would come in for the hurt!

Daemons outnumbered the dwarfs.. but they also had more casualties too!

Finally the Hobgoblins broke, but the infernal guards stuck around, just long enough for the K'daai to land in the side. Meanwhile on the other side, the other K'daai was playing cat and mouse with a Fiend of Slaanesh, and some flesh hounds.

A brave fight here where the Prophet attempted a last stand. I should have called out a challenge at this time, but he took on the 9 attacks bravely before falling. His Keeper of Secrets moving on-wards to a different prey.. lonely HobGoblins!

Hobgoblins running from 3 packs of Flesh Hounds and a Keeper of Secrets with regen'd wounds thanks to her special weapon!

However the Keeper had over-extended herself.. and ran a bit too far forward.. leaving herself open to a flank attack!

One that saw her take 4 wounds, and dish none in return! Almost getting wiped out in a single run by the K'daai! The Daemons gave up the chase on the Hobgoblins, and decided to focus on the K'daai. With all 3 Flesh Hound units charging into the monster.. however they forgot about its Burning Body rule.. and with a wave of heat, the K'daai took out the Keeper before combat even began! And then beat down 4 more Hounds in the combat phase!

It was basically here that tipped the balance of the game, and gave the Chaos Dwarfs a solid victory! With just clean up on the rest of the horde, and final left over hounds.

The batch of Daemons forced back into the warp! He was not impressed with facing off against 2 K'daais.. and I have to say that it was pretty difficult to kill them. We would go on to play another game, with the same lists, but I will leave the report for another day.. enjoy the weekend!

Project Space Wolves: Grey Hunters Squads 3 and 4

Squad 3..

Same recipes of the day before, but the last 2 units of Grey Hunters except these ones have Plasma guns instead.

They were interesting to do these, as I have now figured out how to paint them in big batches, which will help for future units. It will set up a nice base also for the higher quality models such as characters.

So now we dive back into newer units.. Though expect a battle report tomorrow as I am on a business trip in UK at the moment. More units hopefully next week!

Project Space Wolves: Grey Hunters Squads 1 and 2

Squad 1, being 9 members large. Last member is the original test model from the client.

So here are the first 2 units of Grey Hunters, both sporting 2 Meltas each. All the bolt pistols were removed, and replaced with Bolters. Mostly due to the fact that in 6th edition snap fire rules.

All these units were done to a Table Top standard.

The paint scheme was something new for me. The client's brief was to make it a darker tone. And to not match the GW's too blue tone that they use for the traditional Space Wolf color scheme.

This recipe started with a base coat of Vallejo Game Color Cold Grey, then a layer of Army Painter Dark Tone to darker it up. I followed this with GW Asurman Blue wash ( old color ), before hitting the model again with a highlight of Cold Grey. All this was done with the airbrush.

Then I painted the details like the black left shoulder pad, and red right shoulder pad. Black base for all the metals ( be they gold or silver ). All the fur had the GW Dryad Bark base, followed with Vallejo Game Color Khaki highlight. Other brone areas were base Vallejo Game Color Tierra Earth, followed by Khaki.

Finally once, all the colors were in place, then I did a brush on of Army Painter Strong Painter to tone all the colors down, and darken them all up.

Bases are done with Vallejo Game Color Bestial Brown, and then highlighted with Khaki. Simple, and effective. Need to include the flock or snow later on, again once everything is finished.

The last 2 units of Grey Hunters will show up tomorrow.. then on-wards to the 18 Long Hunters!

Squad 2.

Project Space Wolves: Fenrisian Wolves

These were a lot of fun to paint as I got to do some nice blending with the Airbrush here.

Again these are just Table Top quality. Figuring it best to get those ones done first, and set a baseline before continuing on to expand upon it. I tend to have a habit of going above and beyond the brief level when I get overly motivated or used to a certain style ;)

These were a quick job none the less, and the bases do not have any flock or snow on them yet ( haven't decided which route to take yet there ).

Really enjoyed the unit, and have almost finished the Grey Hunter units.. only 39 of them :)

So more photos, and a couple of close ups.. more photos tomorrow..

Project Space Wolves: The beginning..

OK, so hot on the heels of the Project UK commission, comes another commission! And of course it is also 40k themed! After so many weeks/months of fantasy based stuff, 6th edition gets launched, and everyone wants their 40k armies painted up!

Not complaining though ;)

So above is the kick off lot of the Space Wolf army. It includes:

  • 39 Grey Hunters w/ 8 special weapons
  • 18 Long Fangs w/ 15 heavy weapons
  • 8 Terminators
  • 5 Fenrisian Wolfs
  • 6 Thunder Cavalry
  • 2 Rhinos
  • 1 Drop Pod
  • 3 Wolf Guards
  • 3 Wolfen
  • and 5 characters ( 2 failcast )
What is also interesting is that not all of the models are Table Top Quality! Characters are to best quality, and things like the Cavalry and Terminators are to Table Top +.. so should be interesting to see how this all comes out. What is also cool, is that I have vehicles to do! And with all the practice with the airbrush, and many youtube videos I am watching on how to use it with vehicles.. I have high hopes on how they will turn out! Let's hope I do them right ;)

I have already started in on it, as I am still on holidays, and have time. Though they are in WIP progress atm, but hoping to have them ready for tomorrow!

Expect a lot of updates on these over the coming weeks before I get back into Fantasy or more of the Project UK Part 2!

Project UK: The Summary..

So with all the work done this week, and all the work put into this project, I wanted to put together a final Summary article showing all the units done for this commission.

It was a large project of 280 models and I put a self imposed timeline on it. The client was overly nice with the project, and said to finish it when I could finish it. So why the self imposed timeline? Well cause I am never sure when I go back to UK and can drop it off again. With my trip next week, I will be able to drop if off, and pick up the next batch of models. Though I suspect I will not be able to paint them as fast as there are a few more trips in the next month that will slow me down, and no holidays for me to focus on them like this one here.

And with that.. the photo slam of everything that was done within this project batch.

The original zombie hunter woman from Hasslefree Miniatures..

Badass ladies, from Hasslefree and West Wind..

Tomb raiding hottie from Hasslefree..

Old school Rogue Trader Imperial Guardsmen..

Necromunda Van Saar gang members..

Some Bloodcoat mutants..

Special OPs Imperial guards from various makers..

NAKED STORM!!! The reason for so many hits this month ;)

Some creepy gas masked stormtroopers.. ready for action..

What's better than Mutants? Gors with guns.. and football jerseys..

Privateer Press Satyrs.. ready to whip the troops into shape to take out the loyalists..

Privateer Press commander.. you think the other Satyrs are bad? This chick is the worse!

Warrior Mystic? YES PLEASE! Loved painting this model up though.. especially the pink areas..

"Burn the Heretics!!" A common motto from the Necromunda gang Redemtionists..

The initial batch of 20 Bloodcoats.. where I tested out the line painting method that would work on..

.. this batch.. which was completed in no less than 2 day!!! Many more hits just from this little side project..

And the Forgeworld champions and characters to lead the Bloodcoats! Loved these guys, and glad that I left them till last. Were a ton of fun to paint up and might just pick up some more in the future for myself!

So with everything finished, and in 26 days.. OK repeating that point but it is pretty impressive ;) .. I just have 1 question for anyone checking this out.. which one was your favorite and why?

Thanks, and stay tuned for the next project already in progress!

Project UK: Renegade Bloodcoat Champion

With a sad heart and yet smiling at the same time.. the UK commission ( batch 1.. ) is FINISHED!!! Can I believe it? No not really.. 280 models in 26 days.. over 20 models per day ( though I think the last 2 days helped that average LOL ).

So here is the last model of the bunch. I really tried to do a bit more details here, again cause it was the last model, and also cause well.. it is a nice model. Always wanted to buy this model and paint it.. so this is the next best thing then.

And the photos...

I really need to build that photobooth though.. cause the current light set up ( which is the same lights I use to paint with ) just are not doing it. Skin is supposed to have some dead flesh/green tint to the highlights, and the red is a bit darker than it looks in the photo.

Oh well.. still have almost a week before delivery.. so maybe I will get a chance to take better photos.. or more likely I will paint another 100 or so models :) Let's see which happens..

Also a fuzzy out of focus shot of the gruesome foursome!

So.. now time for some food, and then tests on some Space Wolf models.. expect to see some of them next week when I go back to my normal posting schedule where I paint like a fiend throughout the weekend, and then show them throughout the week ;)

But at least with the posts this week, people following me now can see how fast I paint things ;) Any questions on how I paint, just ask, and I can answer them in a future post maybe? Cheers
