Project UK: Chaos Cultists

Well it is Monday.. and I spent the entire weekend hanging out with BuRock in Izmir for his birthday celebrations! You saw his present on Friday's post.. and I am writing this Friday morning as I assume I am still hung over this morning from all the gaming and partying occurring whenever I happen to visit Izmir.

Quick shots of the Chaos Cultists that I painted up for Project UK. These coming from the Dark Vengeance box set.

They were interesting to paint up in that they have a ton of details on them! For a bunch of 2 part models, they have a lot of character, details, and the designs are quite good! Can't wait to dive into the other pieces like the Chosen or the Hellbrute! Those should be a lot of fun as well.

Color scheme for these guys, as has been stated before, was a dirty factory look. So I kept it to faded blues, and lighter browns overall. The red was to tie them into the Word Bearers that will come later. Since that is the faction of Chaos that utilizes Cultists the most. Using them as Pawns in their nefarious schemes on compliant worlds of the imperium.

Speaking of Pawns though.. one of the jokes around these guys was that they would be more like Prawns.. no idea how it really got to this point, but the conversation between Zzzzzz and myself was that they should all have Prawn markings on them. And so somehow I agreed to put some Prawn markings on all the models!

So I went online looking for graphic images of Prawns.. and came out with the following links here 1, here 2 and here 3. I ended up trying to copy the 3rd image as it was the most simple, however I might attempt the 1st one on a banner if I get such a chance.

Have to say it was interesting to try to paint such a small tattoo. Can't say it was absolutely great like something those crazy talented Germans could pull off ( check here for photos from my adventures in painting classes in Germany to see what I mean ) but I think they came out OK for tabletop use.

Some came out a bit more like lobsters, but at that scale, well.. what can you do sometimes!

Overall they were a lot of fun to paint up, though took a bit longer than I would normally spend on models. As you can see that the bases are quite basic due to me not being as creative or have as much spare bits kicking around as Zzzzz does to throw at the bases. But perhaps in the future they will get touched up on the bases, and this can be resolved.

Hope you like them, and a report of what happened over the weekend should be up soon. Along with other projects that I have on the go leading up to the non-Tusot fantasy tournament this weekend that I am hoping to attend. Until them.. cheers for now!

Camarones eran una prueba de mi capacidad de hacer a mano alzada en una escala más pequeña. Creo que salió bien, pero más pruebas en estas áreas son obligatorios.

  3. Nice work on these. I like that yellowy skin tone its sickly/corrupt looking without it being outright Nurgle slime.
