The Surprise model... 54mm Scale Dwarf Berzerker!

Well I should be travelling to Izmir at this time.. ( actually am in the air at the moment if all things are going smoothly ).. and with that the delivery of BuRock's birthday miniature is under way!

As you can see, it is a Dwarf! And anyone who reads BuRock's blog can tell that he is a big player of the Dwarf race. He thinks he is clever on saying that he has 2 armies, but they are just normal Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs. I mean, a Dwarf is a Dwarf so.. but I am getting off topic here.

This one is a bit special to me as it is one of the first 54mm models I have painted, and it was the first real model to begin painting after the workshop with Stephan and gang in Aachen a few weeks ago. It is also a model that I got a lot of feedback on from my fellow painters over at Brushbrothers.com. Who were great at providing me some feedback throughout the process ( including informing me when my work began to ruin the model.. ala Sun Burnt skin anyone? ). So a lot of work, prep, and time went into this model.

Now why am I stating all this information, and seemingly laying it on thick that I spent countless hours ( 24 to be exact ) on this model, and how it was made with painstakingly hard labor with a huge amount of blood, sweat and tears poured into it?

Simple.. BuRock and I always trade miniatures as presents to each other for our Birthdays. Has been a small tradition for the past few years. However we both seem to give a model that we need for gaming purposes, but then never paint it. So this year I decided to take it up a notch, paint it up using the techniques I have learned over the past couple of years, and workshops attended. And provide him something a bit more display base styled, instead of "Oh god, this guy rules, but dammmmn I need to paint him" like I normally do to him.

That and it will make him go insane trying to match it now :) And he has less than a month to do so. Good luck mate!

So with that, here are some more photos of him.. removed the old white background as it seems my cameras and computers hate it for trying to set a white balance.. and turns everything to be overly saturated on the colors!

Also as a side note, originally I was going to give the Scibor bust of this model. However BuRock had informed me that he was going to buy it instead. So I ended up using the 54mm version of him instead. Too bad BuRock ended up not buying it in the end. Oh well.. will paint it up, show it off, and put it on my shelf with a note saying "It could have been BuRock's!" :)

Enjoy!

  1. hi...

I know this little guy... The skin looks far better, that on the first pics! But I think you can even now be a little braver. I like the reflection on the belly, but the face and shoulder could be a little more brighter, because it is more upwards and the sun shines on the head directly.

Nevertheless, it is a pretty little guy!

    Greetings, Taggi

    1. Hey Taggi.. thanks for the comments. Agreed I could probably be more brave here. Next model I will go that route then, and try to do a bit more. Cheers

    1. Gracias JD.

  7. Wow! That looks great :)
I can see that you put a great deal of extra time on this model. Especially the skin and the greens look really nice. You are definitely mastering the blending!

    1. Indeed MaGie.. I almost went insane with the hours I was pouring into this model. The blending is still a pain to do up properly, but I am definitely getting there with it. Plenty more models on route to test it out on though in the coming weeks :)

      Thanks for the comments!

    1. Glad that you liked it mate. And the suffering is half of the process of working on it. I spent 24 hrs on it, you can suffer a bit as well ;) I like to share don't you know :)

Looking forward to what you work on now!
