Project UK: Heavy Weapons!

So after the big post last week, and a few "discussions" via local forums, I basically turned off the internet over the weekend and dug into Project UK instead. Better to focus on something constructive, then devolve into something destructive.

With that said, it was a very productive 2 days of painting! Rounding out all but 2 of the models left in this batch of models!

To kick things off of this week's posts will be the heavy weapon teams... the backbone of every Imperial Guard army it seems ( or at least how I see them being build lately ).

Up first are some Vostroyan Heavy Weapons. I had painted some of these up for myself in the past, and had actually given the commander to my Father-in-Law at one time ( not sure if he still has it though ). So I was familiar with the models themselves, but have never painted the HW team. Plus I was asked if I can give them green edgings on the boots and jacket sleeves, and age the armor a bit. Nice little challenges.

There were 6 in total; 3 Heavy Bolters, 3 Lascannons.

You can see a bit of the verdigris on the left most bolter. Showing a bit of wear on the masks as well.

They did come out a bit like Christmas warriors, which is always a concern with red/green color schemes. But I think the bronze helps to alleviate it too much. Worst case, they can scream Christmas carols as battle cries! Maybe the enemy will pop up looking for Santa instead of trying to shoot back? Who know..

Next up are the Bloodcoat Weapon teams.. nothing special here really. OK, actually there kinda is. The first 6 are just autocannons, but the last 6.. well.. not sure if they are autocannons, heavy stubbers, or heavy bolter substitutes, but they are pretty cool none the less. More Forgeworld goodies in that batch.

I had a lot of fun painting these up, and will miss the fact that there are no more Bloodcoats ( that I am aware of? ) left in the client's possession at the moment. Prove me wrong.. I dare you! ;)

Last HW units are for the Jungle fighters, and some grey coats from the first batch.

Nothing super special here, aside from the grey coat guys are some really nice sculpts from the past! I like how the skintone on the blonde guy came out though. Spent a bit more time on it as I was testing something out there.

And that is it for batch 1.. lots of photos.. and more coming on Thursday.. though then it will be more Mutants and such..

Splitting up the posts this week due to the fact that I am working out of Belgium, and will also be attending the Dervish Painting Class in Aachen this weekend in Germany! Really looking forward to it, and expect a lot of photos and a pretty big write up ( probably split into a couple articles ) once it is all finished! Back to "normal" painting on Oct 31st when I get back into Istanbul. In the meantime it is work, workshops, documentations, and Belgian foods for now, and German beers and long days this weekend! Cheers..

    1. Agreed. The shoulder held weapon teams were really nice to work with. Different but not overly so. Glad that you liked also!

    1. Thanks LF.. was a new trick I tried, and am glad it turned out good.. otherwise it would have meant redoing the armor! And considering I never do anything half fasted, it would have meant all the bronze bits! Yeah.. that's how I roll!
