Dystopian Wars: EoTBS Fleet Updates

Yeah, so at the beginning of the week I stated that my posting would slow down.. though I did not realize it would almost stop!

OK, right, so.. here is a post for you all! And what a post.. I was able to finish off the 6 cruisers this week for the fleet leaving me with what I believe to be a playable force for DW! If not a bit short handed in the air due to lack of planes. However it is still a fleet that I could play with, so win for me!

I am really liking how this fleet turned out so far. It looks cohesive here, and one that could do some damage if required as well. Though the blue paper underneath it all gives off quite the blue glow.. will need to build up a proper board to at least show these guys off with.

Highlights of this project was that the airbrush made quick work of the hulls. Below you can see a few WIP shots of them going from a primer grey base, to getting some shading, and highlights. All with airbrush before I tackled it with the regular brushes.

Basic grey with the initial shading from bottom up..

First shots of the highlights, from the top down..

Extreme highlights from almost directly above, and in some areas where I wanted it to be lighter.

The most difficult part though, especially on the cruisers, were the windows! Tried a few styles to make it work, but in the end I ended up just using a Size 1 brush to lay down a base color, then a 3/0 brush to get some light blue on the bottom and a white dot at the top, before washing it with blue wash with a 0 brush. Found this to be the quickest, and decent method. Of course, once finished I have to touch up the rims to the windows with light grey.

Currently on the bench are the 5 bombers.. masked off the flying stands, and attacked them with the airbrush. Will be going with a green pattern on them, with copper centre sections. Coming along nicely so far, but the windows are being a pain as they are smaller than the ship windows.. which I didn't think was possible!

Anyways.. weekend is upon us.. and I am hoping to get this fleet completed, and stuck back into the Imperial Guard models by Sunday. Let's see if that happens considering I have a wedding to attend and a hangover to deal with on Sunday ;)

    1. Heh.. sorry.. yeah I should probably do a more comparison type shot of them once I have everything finished! 28mm models look like giants of the deep compared to these models :)

  2. I love the way you photographed these. They look absolutely huge. And then when you take the long shot and we see the scale, it's impressive. Nicely done!

    1. Thanks! And in which way do you mean tackling? Against them in gaming or for painting? I found the change in size for painting refreshing and challenging at the same time. :)
