Dark Elfs: Harpies! Round 1

So another unit almost finished. I have to say, that the models are not the greatest, I did try the normal skin recipe on them, however the ogryn wash didn't take too well. So I tried a slight twist to it, to make them a bit darker.

After 5 hrs, the finished product comes out a bit monotone, but I think it hits the max skin showage. The photos don't show off all the differences in skin tones, but the models are painted with basic Tallarn Skin, and then doused in washes over washes over washes. I even used a very old GW Flesh Wash from their old ink range before it was discontinued.

I did do up a final extreme highlight of the Tallarn/Elf Flesh on the skin aspects. Just to give it a bit more differences from the membranes on the wings.

Overall not bad, not great, but I think they will work out nicely. Official reaction was not good on them however, so will be redoing the wings and legs now in black and see how that goes over on them. Skin will get a bit lighter as well, but will see once the black is in.

Painted these up while watching Star Wars Episodes I, II, and III. Nice long painting session.

Next up will be some Crossbowelfs.. doing them in batches.. to make it easier to paint them up..

  1. Hey,

I'm liking your Dark Elf stuff. I've never been a huge fan of the GW Harpies but your paint job is good.

I've just ordered a box of Avatars of War Harpies that have to be seen to be believed!

    Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks man.. these were done very simple like just to get them covered. But were better than the other harpies I painted up cause at least these ones stayed together and stood up right!
