WIP: Ashton - Eden model...

So here is another new little project that is going on at the moment. Why? More like why not... nah that is not it. Just needed something that I can paint and not care too much about.

Main reason for that is due to the fact that my UK Visa finally came in! So things are about to get really really chaotic around here now and the house is about to be flipped upside down! Expect a lot more news on this topic in the future... but for the time being more on this model.

With that in mind I don't want to mess things up. So a test model to muck about with some new techniques and such. Something to take the edge off while I paint up the Dwarf Bust that requires being finished before leaving the country.

And yes, there are other models for me to work on but I am liking this guy. Lots of chances to try new things on nit like the pale skin... and some fake chipping on the armor sections.

It was a pretty simple process though.. painting some pretty dark spots with black, and then lining the bottom section of the dots or lines with a brighter color.

Problem is.. I am not liking the effect at the moment and I will be redoing it completely most likely. But am curious what others think of it?

That and the orange knee pads are really not working here I think. But again.. a test model is a test model so... always room for change and improvement!

Things left to be done though are to do up the massive hands/forearms sections, and then some blue OSL effects. I am hoping that it will add a new dimension to the model. I am also thinking of a tattoo or something but again not quite sure of it yet.

So yeah.. weekend is coming up.. more work on this and the Dwarf is coming.. and a lot of packing to occur as well! Let's see how well that process goes!

  1. I think the chipping is not as bad as you think. But I believe I understand your thoughts, depending on the angle it only seems as there is a bright line not a hole in the armor.
Btw: I like the orange. Strong color contrast yes but if there is an additional focus for the head than it could work pretty good.

So again moving around? Seems you do a lots of travel and moving :) Crossing my fingers that everything works well.

    1. Thanks Paradox0n for the comments. Just need to figure out the different angle problem then.. will work on it more, or make the different more severe.

As for moving, yes.. I do that often, but this is another of those big moves. From Turkey to UK! Lots of planning required for that, so expect me to go dark quite a bit in the month of November from the blog-o-sphere! Some intentional, some unavoidable!

  2. I think the chipping looks fine the way it is. I understand what you mean about it not seeming quite right, but as with all scratches and nicks in paintwork, visibility from different angles does change and you will nearly always see the edge where light hits, but not always the recesses around the highlight

    1. Thanks Paul.. I think I need to play around with it more. It might also be due to the fact that the base color and the chips are too close also? Not sure.. more practice required here!

  3. I like the scratches and worn look of the armor. But please think about the focus. The orange knee pads distract from the head... perhaps an additional eye catcher on the head?

    1. Taggi.. I am thinking about the focus still actually.. that is why I think that the Orange I went with is too bright.. but the head will become a 'beacon' of sorts.. another test section to be made :) But I understand what you mean on it, and I think I will redo the knee pads and de-saturate them more to make them less powerful.

Thanks for the comments as always there :)

  4. Looks good to me so far, not sure what you want for a final effect though. Maybe edge the armor with lighter colors (like GW style). Best, Dean
