Studio updates!

While waiting for deliveries and the landlord to show up Saturday morning, I had a chance to do some cleaning up in the studio. I haven't taken any real shots of it since moving in here, and so I thought I might share where I do the painting.

Main things I did with the move from Turkey to UK was to upgrade my painting desk. This came from a suggestion from Da Prez himelf, Micheal from Painting Buddha. When in his studio back before Games Days Germany we talked about how the height of the table can help or hinder just as much as anything else. So the first real piece was a height adjustable table from Ikea that can provide a lot of space for me to work on.

Main things on the desk at the moment are my paint racks for Scale75/Andrea/GW colors.. my camera equipment, my stereo, laptop for posting/editing, with TV for shows when doing prep or batch painting, and of course the painting area. Which consists of the White paper to try to protect a bit of the table at least while airbrushing, and the shelf of gear. And my tri-lamp light which was also an upgrade since moving from Turkey. Much better than the Ikea lamps :)

Oh and the big guy The Thing is also standing around waiting to get finished :)

On the other side of the room is the back up table. Which Mrs Lee will be taking over for her work stuff and laptop, which means I need to find a new spot for the drawers :) But the rest of my colors sit here. My Vallejo colors sit here along with the randoms that I pick up from random events or stores that I visit. Yeah.. I like my paints.

All my main tools and tool boxes reside here as well. Sanders, Drills, pliers, cutters, etc etc etc....

Need to find a nice photo or collection of photos to put up there.. I have some ideas for it.. but need to check to see if I can pull it off first :) watch this space to see what goes there!

The only thing that I really did bring from Turkey that was super important for me was my display case.

The biggest problem I had with it though was that it was 5cm too tall for the room! So I had to cut 10+cms from it to make it even fit in the room. But it does dominate the room a bit :)

Currently it is holding all my basing materials mostly. A couple of finished comms sit here, and a couple of them sit here. My unfinished works sit here. I hope to get some new boxes etc and re-organizing the stuff within it, and use it as it is supposed to be. Put my armies back into it, and see how they look and use them for inspiration once more!

So yeah.. that is my studio space at the moment. What do you all think? Any ideas on how to improve it? I have plans still for it.. but they need to wait a bit. Enjoy the rest of the week!

  3. Cool mancave. I have to agree the height of a table can make a big difference to your painting.

    1. Agreed. Used to just use a computer desk ( in the 3rd photo ) but it was too low. Now I can get a bit better, but I might need to drop it a bit as it is maybenow too high. Or need to get a better chair...

    1. Cheers Michael.. was a requirement for the house. A good space for me for painting, and a big kitchen for my wife. I think we both won here ( but I might have gotten the better end of the deal! ).

i ll have my setup altered once i am in my new place so i can definitely use some advice from you there. also, i think i should buy paint racks similar to yours to keep the place tidy in the first place.
