Project UK: Airbrushing and Scotsmen..

COME AT ME BRO.. I DARE YAH!

Ok, so not sure where that came from, but still... had some fun doing some mass airbrushing this week. Really trying to buckle down and get this Project UK comms finished. The biggest batch left of it is a batch of 63 scotsmen made from a variety of pieces from different vendors. But in the end it is just a bunch of scots!

The batch started simple enough though..

Take a single model out, and paint it up. See how it looks, and how I could replicate it for the other 62 versions. This was the guy on the right. Only change asked for was to make the hat ( which has a special name to which I can't remember ) the same color as his jacket and gear. Simple change.

I also have to do the white plaid marks on the kilt, but that will come at the very end when everyone is finished though. Easier that way.

So once the scheme was chosen, it was off to pick up the airbrush, and get to work!

2K priming for everything.. the other 9 were done already, so they are off to the left here.

Very simply done with the black Vallejo Primer, and then White Vallejo Air. Dead easy.

Then I hit the whole bunch on the top sections with GW Drab Olive, and the base with Grey Primer Vallejo Air. At this point they are blocked out as far as I would like to go with the airbrush, and the rest will go by brush. I could do more airbrush work, but at this point my airbrush begins to spit from all the work, and I need to give it a proper clean and myself a bit of a rest.

Here I have drybrushed grey, and a dirty white/cream color onto the bases. Along with painting all the kilts and pompoms blue. Dead boring work, but was relaxing a bit while watching the Nye vs Ham debate on evolution/creationist topic. Very interesting, and will listen to the rest of it while finishing this batch this weekend.

Am hoping to put a serious dent into this over the weekend, and hoping to get the put away if possible. Still have a few more characters and what not to touch up etc for this project, but we will get them done!

Enjoy the weekend!

  1. Looks good. I'm doing the same thing for my Cadians at the mo, But I've not found the right Vallejo Model Air colour for the clothing, and I don't trust my thinning skills on GW paints.

    1. Great to hear... and agreed it is hard to find the right colors at times. But I just experiment with the thinning of GW colors or even VMC/VGC ranges until they look about right and shoot out the airbrush at a decent rate.

    1. Thanks.. its a throw back to my beginnings on the blog where I did nothing but batch painting. :) As far as the hat, it is a Japanese headband I picked up while in Japan last year. Can't remember what it says though, guess I will have to ask some people at work then..
